Team India skipper Virat Kohli had expressed delight on the beginning of the ICC World Test Championship. The WTC will commence from August 1n with the first Ashes Test at Edgbaston. Kohli believes it will add context to the traditional format.

Meanwhile, each series will have 120 points up for the grabs. Thus, the mentioned points will further get divided into the number of matches for the particular series.

Furthermore, each of the top-nine teams will feature in three home-and-away series each.

Besides, the series would be comprised of either two matches or to a maximum of five games like the impending Ashes series between hosts England and visiting Australia.

The inaugural edition will witness 71 matches in two years. Subsequently, these games will be host in 27 series in the space of little over 20 months.

The maiden edition will witness India, England, Australia, Bangladesh, New Zealand, South Africa, Pakistan and the Windies.

Meanwhile, the top two sides will face off in the finale held in the UK in June 2021.

Kohli, 30, in the ICC release, maintained that India is up for the challenge. He further cites it adds a lot to the most extended version of the game.

“We are awaiting the ICC World Test Championship with great enthusiasm as it adds context to the longest format of the game,” Kohli said.

Leading the No. 1 Test side, Kohli reiterated that it is gratifying to finish on the top of the charts while adding Test cricket is pretty demanding.

Kohli maintained that Team India had done exceedingly well in the recent past. He added they believe in having their chance to become the champions while donning the whites.

“Test cricket is very challenging and coming out on top in the traditional form is always highly satisfying. The Indian team has done really well in recent years and will be fancying its chances in the championship,” Kohli added.

For instance, two-match Test series will witness 60 points each for the Test fixtures, so as, 40 each for the three-match Test series.

Meanwhile, the fixtures are based on any bilateral series with the first cycle, including day-night matches following a mutual understanding between the board members.
