In more bad news for West Indies cricket, the current head coach of the West Indies team Phil Simmons has been sacked citing “differences in culture and strategic approach” during his tenure.
The West Indies Cricket team will travel to UAE for T20 series and Phil Simmons was”Effectively immediately, the WICB today announced it has separated from the Head Coach Phil Simmons,” the WICB said in a statement.
Phil Simmons was shown doors in September 2015 after he interfered in the selection policy during the West Indies tour of Sri Lanka.
It said the decision had been taken because of “differences in culture and strategic approach” between the board and Simmons. “The WICB would, therefore, like to thank the coach for his contribution and wishes him the best in his future endeavours,” the statement added.
With him gone, Joel Garner will be the manager for the series against Pakistan and also Hendrick Springer and Edwrick as respective coaches. Simmons was given the coaching of the West Indies Cricket team in March 2015. Under his coaching, the West Indies cricket team won the World T20 title for second time held in 2016.
Simmons coaching in test matches has been poor with West Indies winning 1 test match out of 14 matches. The West Indies board sacked former T20 captain Darren Sammy and named Carlos Braithwaite as the new captain of T20 format.
With West Indies struggling in test format, the West Indies team need somebody who can revive them in the longer format. West Indies recent loss in test series came against India. West Indies lost the series 0-2 and are currently 8th in test rankings at the present moment.
