International Cricket Council (ICC) will discuss the future of the World Test Championship (WTC) 2019-21 this week. The scheduled inauguration edition of WTC has been disturbed because of the outbreak of the coronavirus. Several Test series have been postponed, and therefore, the finale of the tournament is likely to be shifted from the initial schedule.
While talking to Indian Express, the ICC spokesperson stated that the governing body would mull over World Test Championship scheduled during this week’s meeting. The ICC Chief Executives’ Committee meeting is scheduled for Monday followed by Board meetings on Wednesday and Thursday.

“No decisions have been taken as yet, the WTC will be discussed at the Board meetings this week,” he said.
As the Indian Premier League (IPL) is scheduled in April-May, ICC will have to chalk out a new plan accordingly. Initially, the finale of the tournament was set to be played in June 2021 at the iconic Lord’s ground.
India leading the World Test Championship points table:
Nine teams have participated in the WTC, but each team has to play six Test series. 120 points have been allotted for every series irrespective of the number of matches in it. And, the two teams topping the table will play the finale.
Currently, India is leading the points table with winning three series out of four. The only series they have lost is against New Zealand by 0-2. The Men in Blue will next play the four-match Test series against Australia scheduled to begin on December 17. It is a crucial series for Virat Kohli’s side to maintain their top spot to reach the finale of the World Test Championship.
But as India is close to complete their quota of six series, not all teams have played the same number of series.
