I Thought You Had A Bit More In You: Yuvraj Singh On Suresh Raina’s Retirement

Former Indian batsman Yuvraj Singh tweeted to wish his ex-teammate a happy retirement. Suresh Raina announced his retirement on Saturday, August 15, just after former Indian skipper MS Dhoni bid adieu to the international cricket.

Suresh Raina confirmed his retirement from international cricket owing to an Instagram picture with his CSK teammates, captioning it as, “It was nothing but lovely playing with you, @mahi7781. With my heart full of pride, I choose to join you in this journey. Thank you, India. Jai Hind!”.

The Indian star batsman had a decent white-ball career with Team India, earning the southpaw a reputation of one of the greatest left-handed batsmen from India. He is a very close friend of his Team India and CSK teammate and skipper — MS Dhoni and has followed his path to retirement at the same time.

Yuvraj Singh Tweeted His Dismay On Suresh Raina’s Retirement

Indian swashbuckling batsman Yuvraj Singh expressed his dismay on Twitter over Suresh Raina’s early retirement. Suresh Raina is just 33 and hence had a long career ahead as a cricketer, but the struggle ahead for getting a place in the Indian Team was on his mind — and hence it forced him to put an end to his international journey with the Blues.

Yuvraj Singh had tweeted on Sunday ‘Suresh boy! I thought you had a bit more in you! ‘ expressing his dismay for an early retirement for the 33 year old all-rounder.

The former all-rounder also recalled the time when the duo saw India winning the Quarterfinals of the 2011 World Cup against Australia with a stellar partnership.  Suresh Raina scored a crucial 34 off 28 balls to chase the target of 260.

” But nevertheless you have played some really important innings in crucial times for India, especially our epic partnership against Australia in the WC quarterfinals! Go well buddy, have a great IPL ahead @ImRaina”- Yuvrraj Singh added.

The 33-year-old has played 18 Tests, 226 ODIs, and 78 T20Is for India. The left-handed batsman scored 5,615 runs in ODI cricket at an average of 35.31.

In Test cricket, he only managed to register 768 runs, with his highest score being 120. In T20Is, Raina scored 1,605 runs at an average of 29.18 for the blues.

Raina will be seen in action in the IPL for CSK starting September 19th. He has joined the six-day training camp at Chennai and will be leaving for the UAE on 21 August with the team. He has enjoyed the IPL thoroughly and has 5,386 runs in 193 appearances.

Raina — a solid hitter of the ball is a joy to watch.
