On last Sunday (10th November) night, Deepak Chahar destroyed the Bangladesh batting line-up and guided the hosts India to win the T20I series. During that match, Chahar took a hat-trick and also broke the record of best bowling figures in T20I history. The leg-spinner Yuzvendra Chahal, who was the previous record holder of India’s best T20I bowling performance, trolled Chahar for breaking his record.

It was the third and final T20I of the series between India and Bangladesh at Nagpur. As the series was standing at 1-1 before this match, the winner of Nagpur T20I would ultimately take the T20I series.

After India were forced to bat first, the hosts managed to put a challenging total on the board. In that first innings, India scored 174/5 in 20 overs.

The 27-year-old right-arm pacer Deepak Chahar dominated in the second half of the match. While most of the Indian bowlers were struggling due to the wet ball, Chahar used his bowling skills to destroy the Bangladesh batting line-up.

Chasing down the 175 runs target, Bangladesh were once batting on 110/2. However, Chahar destroyed the visiting batting line-up without giving any further chance. His bowling helped India to bundle out the visitors for just 144 runs (19.2 overs).

At the end of that innings, Deepak Chahar claimed a hat-trick and became the first Indian male bowler to claim a T20I hat-trick. After dismissing Shafiul Islam in the 17.6 overs, Chahar took the wickets of Mustafizur Rahman and Aminul Islam in 19.1 and 19.2 overs respectively.

Finally, Deepak Chahar finished the game with the bowling figures of 3.2-0-7-6. He broke the record of previous best T20I bowling figures which was 6/8 by the former Sri Lankan spinner Ajantha Mendis.

On the other hand, the leg-spinner Yuzvendra Chahal was the previous record holder of India’s best T20I bowling figures. During the Bengaluru T20I against England on 1st February 2017, Chahal claimed the bowling figures of 4-0-25-6. Very obviously, Deepak Chahar broke that record too when he registered the best ever T20I bowling figures. After pointing that, the leg-spinner Chahal trolled Chahar for breaking that record.

After that game, when Chahal was introducing the Player of the Match Deepak Chahar and batsman Shreyas Iyer in Chahal TV, the leg-spinner told the pacer, “What do we say in bowling about this man. Aaj mera hi record tod diya, ‘bade besharam aadmi ho yaar tum’ (Today my record was broken. You are a shameless man).”

During that conversation, Deepak Chahar also credited his IPL experience to playing in Chennai where they face heavy dues. That experience massively helped the right-arm pacer to achieve this incredible success while the other bowlers hugely struggled.
