Sri Lanka stuns India:
Hosts Sri Lanka defeated India by five wickets in the first game of the Nidahas Trophy on Tuesday.
Dinesh Chandimal’s decision to bowl first after winning the toss was proven right when his bowlers sent back Rohit Sharma and Suresh Raina cheaply. However, a 95-run stand between Shikhar Dhawan and Manish Pandey helped India recover from the poor start.
Dhawan went on to score 90 off 49 balls, as India posted a competitive 174 for five in the allotted 20 overs.
In reply, Sri Lanka chased down the total with nine balls remaining. Kusal Perera starred with the bat for the hosts, scoring 66 off just 37.
India will next take on Bangladesh on Thursday in the tri-nation series.
Ross Taylor powers New Zealand to series-levelling win:
Riding on Ross Taylor’s majestic ton, New Zealand chased down England’s total of 335 and levelled the five-match series 2-2 with a five-wicket win on Wednesday.
Taylor played an unbeaten knock of 181 off 147 balls, as the hosts chased down the total with three balls remaining.
The Black Caps were in a huge spot of bother after being reduced to 2 for 2. An 84-run stand between Kane Williamson and Taylor stopped the rot for a while. Taylor and Tom Latham then shared a massive 187-run stand to bring their team in the game.
Taylor remained till the end to ensure his side reach home. He was also well supported by Colin de Grandhomme who scored a quickfire 23.
The right-handed batsman’s career-best knock overshadowed tons from Jonny Bairstow (138) and Joe Root (102) that propped the visitors up to a formidable total of 335 for nine.
Gautam Gambhir named Delhi Daredevils captain
Delhi Daredevils, on Wednesday, announced Gautam Gambhir as their captain.
The southpaw had led Kolkata Knight Riders in the last seven years, helping them to win two Indian Premier League titles.

UEFA Champions League roundup:
Reigning European champions Real Madrid stormed into the Champions League quarterfinal, as with Cristiano Ronaldo’s second-half goal helped them beat Paris Saint-Germain 2-1 on Tuesday. The Spanish giants went through 5-2 on aggregate.
Ronaldo headed home seven minutes into the second half before Casemiro added a second ten minutes from time to put the game to the bed.
The home side levelled in the 71st when the ball deflected into the net off Edinson Cavani to give the home fans a glimmer of hope. However, the hope was short-lived, as Casemiro scored the winner to silent the Paris crowd.
In another game, Liverpool made it to the quarterfinal after nine years with a 5-0 aggregate win over Porto, despite settling for a goalless draw in an uninspiring last 16, second leg at Anfield on Tuesday.
