Achraf Hakimi, on Tuesday, played a starring role as Morocco dumped Spain out of the ongoing 2022 FIFA World Cup. The PSG star scored the winning penalty to help Morocco storm into the quarterfinals of the competition.

The two teams could not be separated after extra time and the tie had to be decided by penalty shootout. The shootout was a one-way traffic as Morocco made light work of Spain.

Spain did have the lion’s share of possession but they could not really capitalise on it. They could muster just one shot on target as Morocco put up a solid defensive display. The 2010 World Cup champions managed just one shot on target which is their lowest-ever in a World Cup game.

In the shootout, Spain could not convert any of their three penalties, with goalkeeper Yassine Bounou brilliantly saving two. Morocco, on the other hand, were spot on from the spot with Hakimi hitting the winning penalty.

Achraf Hakimi’s tribute for Sergio Ramos:

Achraf Hakimi was the centre of all attention after Morocco’s historic win over Spain. The PSG star hit the winning penalty with an audacious paneka to spark wild celebrations in the stands.

And his celebration following the penalty has made many fans believe that it was a tribute paid by him to his PSG teammate and Spain legend Sergio Ramos.

Ramos, who has won two European Championships and a World Cup with Spain, could not find a spot in the squad for the ongoing tournament. Hakimi had reacted on the omission last month by calling Ramos the best in the world.

And his latest gesture has made fans believe that Hakimi paid tribute to Ramos after dumping Spain out of the World Cup. The Morocco star did his trademark penguin dance after scoring the penalty. In the past, Hakimi and Ramos have done the dance together on the pitch.
