Romelu Lukaku could not hide his frustration as Belgium suffered a humiliating exit from the ongoing 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar on Thursday. Belgium’s golden generation once again failed to deliver on the big stage as they crashed out at the group stage.

With Morocco beating Canada in the other game of Group F, Belgium needed to win against Croatia in their final group game. However, they could not break the deadlock and the game ended in a goalless stalemate. Following the draw, Croatia progressed to the last-16 along with group winners Morocco.

Belgium did get some good chance to win the game in the dying moments but they could not capitalise on them. Lukaku also had several chances to fire his team to the next stage but he just could not find the back of the net.

Romelu Lukaku shows his frustration:

Following the humiliating exit from the 2022 FIFA World Cup, Romelu Lukaku did not shy away from venting his frustration. After the final whistle, the Inter Milan striker punched the side of the dugout and destroyed it. A distraught Lukaku was then seen being consoled by Belgium coach Thierry Henry before he headed down the tunnel.

Here is a clip of the incident:

Following the game, former strikers Didier Drogba and Alan Shearer came out in defence of Lukaku. With the striker battling an injury, both Drogba and Shearer were sympathetic with him.

“It will hurt him. He was nowhere near ready, otherwise they would have started him. He gave them a focal point. His lack of game time has hurt them,” Shearer said on BBC.

“He is frustrated not only because he missed the goal but because of the spirit of the team during this tournament. All the talk of fights between players. This is what he will be frustrated by more than the missed chances,” added Drogba.
