Alexis Sanchez Creates New Record With His Goal Against Southampton

Nagendra / 11 May 2017

Arsenal winger Alexis Sanchez has managed to score the opener against Southampton at St Mary’s to help Gunners clinch another important win as they look to qualify for Champions League at the end of the season.

The Chilean is in fine form over the recent weeks and has once again made it count to break the deadlock after an hour to put Gunners into the lead. French striker Olivier Giroud doubled the lead in the final minutes to help Arsenal win a crucial encounter mid week.

In the process of scoring the first goal against The Saints, Alexis Sanchez has taken his tally of away goals to 14. He has become the player with the most away goals in Premier League this season and has eclipsed all other major strikers in the league.

The win ensured that Arsenal could catch up with other top four teams if they can win all their remaining games. However, they will also need either Manchester City or Liverpool to slip in one of their final games which could pave way for their Champions League qualification.

The 28-year old has also managed to score 20 Premier League goals for Arsenal this season as he became the first footballer to achieve the feat for Arsenal since Robin van Persie in the 2011-12 season. However, Dutch striker has finished the season with a jaw dropping 30 goals.

Sanchez continues to prove his importance to Arsenal and it remains to be seen how Wenger and club will ensure that he stays at the club beyond summer.

Paris Saint-Germain and Bayern Munich are considered favourites to swoop for the Chilean as he still has plenty of years left in him. Sanchez could also favour a move away from Arsenal as he is determined to win more silverware which is proving tough with Arsenal since his move to Emirates three years ago from Barcelona.
