Algeria qualify for 2019 African Cup of Nations

Algiers, Nov 19: Algeria crushed Togo 4-1 to qualify for the African Cup of Nations (CAN) to be held in Cameroon in 2019.

Manchester City’s ace Riyad Mahrez on Sunday scored twice for the Greens (13, 30), while winger Youcef Attal and striker Baghdad Bounedjah scored one each in the 28th minute and 92nd minute. The only goal of Togo was scored by Vodolapa in the 55th minute, reports Xinhua news agency.

The away win gifted Algeria enough points to advance to the 2019 CAN. Algeria are topping Group D with 10 points after five matches, followed by Benin (7 points), Gambia (5) and Togo (5).

The last round of the group matches due next March will be crucial for determining the second place holder. Benin will play at home against Togo, while Gambia play away against Algeria.
