Arsenal are hoping to sign Julian Draxler from Schalke having come close to signing the German youngster last January.

The Gunners were linked with Julian Draxler in the summer transfer window as well but they ended up signing £30million man Alexis Sanchez from Barcelona who joined another big name signing from last season, Mesut Ozil.

The German playmaker was recently ruled out for up to 3 months with a knee injury and the London club will be hoping to replace Ozil with Draxler for which they will have to meet the £37million release clause of the 20-year-old.

Arsenal haven’t enjoyed the best of starts to life in the Premier League this season with just two wins from their opening seven games and Ozil has been below par in most of the games, shining just once in the 3-0 win away at Aston Villa in which he scored and assisted operating from his favoured position in behind the striker.

Draxler meanwhile apart from the central midfield role can also play as a left sided midfielder and he shone in the 1-1 draw at Stamford Bridge in the first Champions League group stage game last month.

Having made his Schalke debut aged 16 in January 2011, it remains to be seen if the youngster is ready to shift nations and come to London or is instead tempted by the mighty Bayern Munich whom he is widely tipped to join at the end of this season.
