Arsenal legend explains why Pogba and Ibrahimovic have become a problem for man United

Paul Merson has accused Paul Pogba and Zlatan Ibrahimovic of ignoring the rest of their Manchester United teammates on the pitch.

The Red Devils have struggled to find consistent form in the Premier League in recent weeks after having collected 13 points from a possible 21 after seven top-flight games so far.

Jose Mourinho signed Ibrahimovic on a free transfer from Paris Saint-Germain in July before United brought Pogba back to Old Trafford in a world-record £89m deal from Serie A giants Juventus.

While Ibrahimovic has scored a respectable six goals in 11 appearances in all competitions for the Red Devils, France international Pogba has netted just once in eight games so far.

Former Arsenal midfielder Merson hasn’t been impressed with Ibrahimovic and Pogba as the retired England playmaker accused the pair of only passing the ball to themselves.

“United have problems,” Merson wrote in his Daily Star column.

“Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Paul Pogba just seem to look for each other all the time and ignore everyone else.”

United will make the trip to their bitter rivals Liverpool in their next Premier League game at Anfield on Monday 17 October.

The Red Devils haven’t won the Premier League title since Sir Alex Ferguson was in charge back in 2012-13.

Paul Pogba’s second stint at Manchester United hasn’t exactly gotten off to a smooth start.

After his £89 million move was finally confirmed this summer, United fans were expecting to see the Frenchman effortlessly take up a position as one of the Premier League’s most dominant midfielders.

Instead, Red Devils supporters have grown frustrated after Pogba’s less than impressive performances on the pitch so far this season. According to a report from The Sun, that frustration is starting to spread into the Old Trafford dressing room.

According to respected reporter Neil Ashton, it isn’t only on the field of play where Pogba has been struggling to develop a connection with his new teammates since arriving from Juventus.

The Sun also suggests the 23-year-old has caused ripples amongst the United squad because of his detached persona.

In fact, Pogba has apparently been spending “large amounts of his time reacquainting himself with Cheshire life instead of getting to grips with the stuff at the sharp end.”
