Arsenal roundup: Gazidis bags record bonus, Iwobi new contract and more interesting stories

After a slow start, Arsenal are on track as they maintained consistency over the last few weeks. The Gunners only had one point from their opening two games of the season as Arsene Wenger was heavily criticized for his lack of spending in the transfer window.

Wenger has addressed key issues by signing Perez and Mustafi towards the end of transfer window. The Gunners have managed to eclipse their slow start as they have managed five back to back wins in Premier League which include a 3-0 win in London derby coupled with an important draw against PSG away as they now have the chance to top their Champions League group if they play to their potential.

Here we look at all the important news involving Arsenal today.

Arsenal club captain Per Mertesacker believes he could reach his level again and become an important team player in the ongoing season once he recovers from his knee injury.

The 32-year old has suffered a knee injury in July and was ruled out for the rest of the year but the German believes he still has plenty of football left in him.

He said: “I know that I need to allow myself time. The more time I allow my knee, the longer I’ll be able to play football.

“I can increase the workload already and I am no longer in pain. I believe that I can reach a level again on which I am important for the team. I have the feeling that this is not the end.”

Arsenal have reportedly sent scouts to watch Porto striker Andre Silva who has been impressive up front this season, according to Portuguese outlet O Jogo.

The 20-year old have been very good in front of the goal as he already managed five goals and two assists in ten appearances for the club so far. He has also impressed with Portuguese U-20 side as he looks to be the next big thing in Portugal.

Arsenal defender Hector Bellerin could reject the long term contract offered by the club as he looks to move to Manchester City next summer, according to The Times.

The 21-year old has been very impressive this season and the club are keen to offer him a new deal which would double his wages amid interest from both Barcelona and Manchester City. However, the Spaniard is reportedly keen to work with Pep Guardiola which could seal the move to City.

Arsenal are set to offer a new contract for young starlet Alex Iwobi, according to Daily Mirror. The 20-year old has become an integral part of the first team this season as he continues to impress with his fine performances.

Iwobi was recently offered a new deal in April and will be signing another new deal in just six months which shows the importance of him for the club as they look to keep hold of their future prospects.

Arsenal chief executive Ivan Gazidis has bagged an extra  £1million annual bonus despite the club not managing any silverware last season.

The bonus meant his wages has climbed up to £2.684million as he is only next to Manchester United’s chief executive Ed Woodward who has earned close to £3million in wages last season.
