Arsenal Roundup: Huge Update on Alexis Sanchez Injury, Mertesacker Provides Injury Update And More

After a slow start, Arsenal is on track as they maintained consistency over the last few weeks. The Gunners only had one point from their opening two games of the season as Arsene Wenger was heavily criticized for his lack of spending in the transfer window.

Wenger has addressed key issues by signing Perez and Mustafi towards the end of transfer window. The Gunners have managed to eclipse their slow start as they have managed seven wins in nine Premier League games and remained unbeaten since the opening day which made them genuine contenders for the title early in the season coupled with an important draw against PSG away as they now have the chance to top their Champions League group if they play to their potential.

Here we look at all the important news involving Arsenal today.

Arsenal midfielder Alex Iwobi admitted that he expected to be on loan this season but the young Nigerian international has stayed put and have been impressive for Gunners since the start of the season.

“Honestly I didn’t expect to be where I am today,” Iwobi told Arsenal Player.

“I thought a long time ago that I’d be on loan and probably get experience there before having experience in the first team, but the fact that the boss trusted me to jump into the first team as quick as I did, I’m just grateful for it.

“The same way I was able to break into it is the same way that I take the chance now.

“I play like it’s almost like my last game, I treat it like it’s my last moment here, so I do my best and I always put 100 percent into whatever I do.”

Former Arsenal star Robert Pires has likened Mesut Ozil to Arsenal legend Dennis Bergkemp and called them maestros in their respective teams.

The German international is in sensational form this season and has earned plaudits for his brilliant performances over the past few weeks.

“During my time, the maestro was Dennis Bergkamp and now the maestro is Mesut Ozil,” Pires told Arsenal’s official website. “I love them both because they play very good football but they play for the team. Not for himself, they play for the team. This point is very important for the future and of course for Arsenal.”

Arsenal defender Per Mertesacker has revealed that his rehabilitation is on track and feels that it “couldn’t have gone better” as he eyes faster recovery from his knee injury.

The 32-year old has been sidelined due to knee injury since July and will miss the rest of the year. While there are lot of speculations about his future with the emergence of Shkodran Mustafi, the German star has insisted that he is keen to commit his future to the club.

Arsenal receive a huge boost ahead of their Champions League clash against PSG at Emirates as midfielder Adrien Rabiot could miss the game due to injury.

The Gunners are set to face French champions next week in the Champions League which is set to decide the places in the group. A win would ensure Arsenal finishes on top of the table despite the results on the last round of matches due to better aggregate against PSG.

‘I felt a touch behind the thigh. It could be a tear. I think the chances are dead for Arsenal,’ Rabiot said after the match.

‘I really could not continue. Apparently it’s a tear. But I do not know. I have me go to Paris for the tests but apparently it’s a tear.’

Arsenal were given a huge injury boost ahead of their clash with Manchester United as Alexis Sanchez has featured for Chile against Uruguay and have also scored two wonderful goals.

Ahead of the game, Chile boss Pizzi said: ‘At no time we have received pressure from any club. Not Arsenal or Bayern,’ he said.

‘The health of the players is paramount, we are very responsible. We do not risk to anyone who is not in a position to play.’

The midfielder looked fit and in form which would be great news for the fans ahead of their tough trip to Old Trafford this weekend.
