Arsenal Roundup: Wenger Praise Ozil, Huge Injury Boost And More Interesting Stories

After a slow start, Arsenal is on track as they maintained consistency over the last few weeks. The Gunners only had one point from their opening two games of the season as Arsene Wenger was heavily criticized for his lack of spending in the transfer window.

Wenger has addressed key issues by signing Perez and Mustafi towards the end of transfer window. The Gunners have managed to eclipse their slow start as they have managed seven wins in eight Premier League games which made them genuine contenders for the title early in the season coupled with an important draw against PSG away as they now have the chance to top their Champions League group if they play to their potential.

Here we look at all the important news involving Arsenal today.

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has praised Mesut Ozil for his decision making in the dream goal that has helped Gunners clinch a crucial victory against Ludogorets away from home.

“That’s the strength of the great players, they make the right decision,” Wenger told BT Sport. “I thought for a while he took too long to score. But at the end of the day, when they score you have to say ‘well done.'”

He later added in his news conference: “I would say great players make the right decisions in the game situations they face. They take the optimum solution. To me, it didn’t look like the optimum solution. You wanted him to take the chance earlier.

“But he had enough skill to prove he was right. When the ball was in the back of the net, it was clear it had been the optimum solution.”

Arsenal midfielder Aaron Ramsey who looks fit again is confident of beating Tottenham in this weekend’s North London derby. The Welsh international could start the game as he has regained his full fitness after being sidelined for over two months.

“The team is full of confidence at the moment, and it was important to keep the momentum going against Ludogorets. We’ve been on a great run lately so, to keep that ticking over, it puts us in a good position going into the derby game. Tottenham have been a tough challenge in the last couple of seasons, they’re unbeaten in the league so far this season, but we know what to expect. It’s up to us to break them down. We’re at home and we’re full of confidence we can come away with a win,” said Ramsey.

Arsenal are monitoring the situation of Chelsea target Stefan de Vrij at Lazio, according to reports in Italy.

The Dutch international’s contract situation is not resolved as his deal is set to be expired by 2018 which could make him available for a cut-price deal next summer.

The Italian giants are keen to tie him for a new long term contract but are also looking for a massive release clause as Premier League clubs are interested in signing him.

Sacked Inter Milan boss Frank de Boer did not want to sign Arsenal and Chelsea target Gabriel Barbosa, revealed his brother Ronald de Boer.

The former Ajax boss was sacked earlier this week after just 85 days into his reign at Inter Milan as he was thought to lose the confidence in the dressing room.

Ronald told Bureau Sport: “The squad was not suited to playing his style of football and was also decidedly too big.

“There were seven or eight players who should’ve left or he didn’t want, but they didn’t sell any more than two.

“I include among these Gabriel Barbosa. Frank had no say in that transfer, so Gabriel just arrived out of the blue.”

Arsenal are hopeful of quadruple injury boost ahead of  North London derby as Nacho Monreal, Hector Bellerin, Theo Walcott and Santi Cazorla are all working their way back into the fitness.

The Gunners have managed an impressive 3-2 win against Ludogorets and will look to continue their impressive run against Tottenham who remains the only unbeaten team in the Premier League this season. Arsenal would like to put an end to their run as they want to preserve their own record of remaining unbeaten for the entire season which they managed during 2003-04 season.
