Transfer Update: Club Confirms, Arsenal To Finalise Deal For Defender 1

Crystal Palace manager Sam Alalrydce has confirmed that the club have reached an agreement over signing Arsenal defender Carl Jenkinson.

The 24-year old has fallen down the pecking order at the club this season as Wenger has opted to start Hector Bellerin who have been incredibly good at the right back position over the past two years.

The French tactician has used Hector Bellerin and Mathieu debuchy in the right back position and have recently used Gabriel Paulista in the position which has completely closed the doors for the youngster in the first team lineup.

Wenger has earlier admitted that the defender is close to moving out and have hinted that Crystal Palace could be his destination and now Allardyce has confirmed that the deal is close to being done.

“I think that’s negotiation between the chairman and the agent,” Allardyce said.

“But we appear to have an agreement with Arsenal [for Jenkinson].

“I think we’ve exhausted this country [for transfers] and we’ll be looking to Europe now.”

The duo have earlier worked together when Jenkinson was sent on loan to West Ham and the youngster could get plenty of game time with the Potters for the rest of the season.

Jenkinson became the second signing for new manager Sam Allardyce as he had earlier signed Jeffrey Schulpp from Leicester City in a £12.5million deal.

The departure of Jenkinson would not hurt Arsene Wenger much as the team has enough depth to cover the loss of the talented defender. Jenkinson has barely featured for the club over the the past year as he has recently recovered from a long term injury and have played few games before making the decision on his future.

Crystal Palce will look to strengthen their squad before the end of the transfer window as the addition of Jenkinson will help the team get much stronger in the defense.
