Spanish giants Atletico Madrid are eyeing a move for Leicester City striker Jamie Vardy this summer, according to reports.
The Los Rojiblancos have failed to be effective in front of goal this season and manager Diego Simeone believes that he needs to freshen up their attack for the upcoming season and Independent reports that Jamie Vardy is one of their top targets for next season.
Atletico Madrid forwards have not been in the best of form this season as Antoine Griezmann saw a dip in form while new signing Kevin Gameiro have managed only 12 La Liga goals so far in the league.
Other forwards Fernando Torres and Angel Correa have scored only six and three goals respectively and a new addition to their forward line would be the right move by the club going into next season.
The 30-year old has been the main man in the Premier League last season as he played a crucial role in Leicester’s title triumph. However, he saw a huge dip of form since the start of form but has found his touch towards the last few games.
He has scored an impressive seven goals in the last 12 games he played for both club and country. But his transfer could be effected by a couple of factors- Diego Simeone staying at Atletico next season and FIFA transfer ban which is imposed on Atletico for the upcoming transfer window.
Jamie Vardy is not the only striker they are looking as they have shortlisted four top strikers in Europe. Arsenal’s Alexis Sanchez is another Premier League star who is on their shortlist.
It is widely believed that Sanchez work ethic is something Atletico will be looking forward to which is similar to that of Griezmann in the final third. The other strikers who are linked with a move to Madrid this summer are Edinson Cavani, who is currently playing his best football for PSG and Alvaro Morata from Real Madrid.
With Griezmann’s future still up in the air and Fernando Torres not getting younger anymore, Atletico Madrid will need to force a move to sign one of the four strikers in summer.
