They sold him for a figure towards £50m two years ago but Chelsea reportedly want to bring Brazilian defender David Luiz back to Stamford Bridge.

According to the Daily Mail, Chelsea manager Antonio Conte has submitted a £32m bid for the 29-year-old PSG defender.

David Luiz was hauled off by Unai Emery in PSG’s shock 3-1 defeat at Monaco this weekend, having given away a penalty earlier in the game.

The Blues have already had various offers for central defenders rejected this summer, having failed to acquire AC Milan’s Alessio Romagnoli and Napoli star Kalidou Koulibaly.

Chelsea also switched their attention to Torino defender Nikola Maksimovic. With Conte still looking for defensive reinforcement, 24-year-old Maksimovic – dubbed the ‘new Nemanja Vidic’ – is being targeted.

John Terry and Gary Cahill are still the starting duo at Chelsea, with the ageing right-back Branislav Ivanovic and the injured Kurt Zouma the only other viable options.

David Luiz did not earn himself a reputation as a reliable defender during his time in England and this speculation will surely raise eyebrows amongst the Chelsea fan base.
