Bournemouth 4-3 Liverpool Player Ratings: Karius, Lovren Struggle In Shock Defeat

Liverpool squandered a two-goal lead and lost 4-3 to Bournemouth as Jurgen Klopp’s men missed a good opportunity to leapfrog Arsenal and close the gap on table-toppers Chelsea.

Sadio Mane fired the Reds to lead when he finished off a fine pass from Emre Can in the 20th minute. Two minutes later, the visitors doubled their lead when Divock Origi found the back of the net from a narrow angle. With a two-goal cushion going into the break, Jurgen Klopp’s men were looking all set for three points. But Ryan Fraser, who came off the bench in the 55th minute, turned the game for the Cherries. Callum Wilson reduced the deficit when he scored from the spot in the 56th minute after James Milner brought down Fraser in the box. Can restored Liverpool’s 2 goals lead with a curling effort.  But Fraser once again proved to be the thorn in the flesh for the Reds as he reduced the deficit in the 76th minute with his first Premier League goal. Steve Cook levelled for the Cherries and Nathan Ake scored in the injury time to complete the comeback.

Here is how the Liverpool players performed at the Vitality Stadium:

Loris Karius: 5.5/10

After a relatively easy first half, the German goalkeeper was constantly tested by Eddie Howe’s men and he should have done better with the last three goals especially the last one as he failed to deal with Steve Cooks shot that fell straight to Nathan Ake who made no mistake in finding the back of the net.

Nathaniel Clyne: 6.5/10

After a solid performance both while defending and attacking during the first half, the England international struggled to deal with the attackers in the second half and was caught out of position on several occasions.

Dejan Lovren: 5/10

A very poor performance from the centre-back as he looked all over the place throughout the game.

Lucas Leiva: 5/10

Just like his team, Lucas had a good first half but struggled to contain the Cherries’ forwards in the final quarter of an hour as they took the game away from the Reds. His lack of pace and height was well exploited by the home team.

James Milner: 6/10

Milner is finally showing that Klopp needs to buy a regular left-back if he wants the team to do well. The former England international was looking good while going forward but struggled on several occasions while defending. Also conceded the penalty.

Emre Can: 7/10

Can made a huge impact early on as he assisted Sadio Mane for the opener before curling home a fine effort from 20 yards. However, he struggled to keep the midfield under control in the final 20 minutes that allowed the opposition to dominate the midfield and build good attacks.

Jordan Henderson: 6.5/10

Once again the Liverpool skipper was looking in fine form while distributing the ball during the first half. He also provided the pass for Origi’s goal. However, he lost his composure towards the end of the game that helped Bournemouth to run riot.

Georginio Wijnaldum: 6/10

While he gave a clinical performance in the midfield as he helped the Reds to dominate the game early on but failed to make a bigger impact with the possession. Was also not looking good while defending.

Sadio Mane: 6.5/10

Apart from the goal, the Senegal international failed to provide much to his team.Made some good runs but would look to make a bigger impact in the coming games.

Divock Origi: 7/10

Scored a brilliant goal to double Reds’ lead and was a constant threat for the Cherries. Came very close to double his goal tally late in the second game.

Roberto Firmino: 5/10

A poor game by his standards, Firmino looked lost throughout the game as he failed to create any good chance in the final third.

Substitutes:

Adam Lallana:5.5/10

Replaced Mane in the 69th minute but could make little impact in Bournemouth’s half. Hit an effort wide of the goal post.
