Breaking: Arsenal Close To Announcing Riyad Mahrez Signing

Arsenal have signed Leicester City winger Riyad Mahrez and the announcement could be made very soon, according to reports in Italy.

Busy Summer for Arsenal

The Gunners are looking to strengthen their squad after failing to qualify Champions League for the first time in two decades. They had managed to finish fifth in the Premier League last season and will play in Europa League in the forthcoming season.

Arsene Wenger is determined to bring quality players to Emirates this summer in an attempt to rebuild the squad. They have already signed Sead Kolasinac from Schalke on a free transfer and are very close to signing Lyon striker Alexandre Lacazette in the coming days.

According to Italian outlet Calciomercato, Arsenal have already completed the signing for Leicester City player Riyad Mahrez.  The Algerian international is one of the high profile players that are available in the transfer market this summer and he would be a valuable addition to Arsenal squad.

He was named the PFA player of the season during 2015-16 season when he helped Leicester City win the Premier League. However, things changed drastically for the club last season as they fought relegation before late surge in form helped them finish mid table comfortably.

The 26-year old has expressed his desire to move to a bigger club and was linked with a move to Barcelona as well this summer. However, Arsenal who were so interested in signing him last summer, have now won the race to bring him to Emirates for next season.

Arsene Wenger had remained coy when asked about the chances of signing Mahrez last month.

“Have we made a bid for him? No,” he said.

“Not yet. Not yet means it could happen, it could not happen.”

Mahrez Replacement For Sanchez?

Alexis Sanchez was the best player for Arsenal last season without a doubt. However, his reluctance to sign a new contract means the club needs to look for potential alternatives.

Riyad Mahrez would be one of the most suited players to Gunners’ playing style and would be a very useful player in the final third. The club will need to let players like Sanchez leave who seems to think they are bigger than the club and the move would be the ideal way to proceed in the ongoing transfer window.
