Manchester United’s long-running transfer link has been put to rest after Real Madrid have named Sergio Ramos as their new club captain and ended any possibilities of the defender joining Old Trafford in the summer. Ramos was very closely linked with a move to Manchester United after being frustrated at the lack of respect at Real Madrid.
Marca had reported the story of United offering the Spanish World Cup winner an €11million-per year contract for next 5 years, however, the move has been out to bed after Ramos named as the new Real Madrid skipper.
Manchester United were holding firm with Real Madrid over David De Gea’s proposed move to Bernabeu. United were hopeful of softening the La Liga side’s stance on selling the defender to the 13 time Premier League Champions, however, Florentino Perez has made it very clear that he will not give up on Ramos regardless of De Gea’s arrival this season or the next.
Now that Ramos is destined to stay at Bernabeu, United can press ahead with a move for Nicolas Otamendi. Van Gaal has been keen on signing one key player for every position, having signed Bastian Schweinsteiger and Morgan Schneiderlin next target for United is to sign an established defender.
Elsewhere, Sun are claiming that United have given Real Madrid an ultimatum to wrap up De Gea’s transfer by day’s end or else loose the prospect of signing the 24-year old goal keeper this season.
