Juventus begin their Champions League campaign off the back of a comeback draw in the Derby d’Italia against Inter on Saturday. Juventus head to Copenhagen for the second time in 11 months on Champions League business. Last time around, the Bianconeri were held to a very disappointing 1-1 draw by then Danish champions FC Nordsjelland, a side vastly inferior to Conte’s men. But it was pleasing for them eventually topping a difficult group that included the champions Chelsea and Shakhtar Donetsk. But they were unpleasantly served a humbling by eventual champions Bayern leaving a sour taste to end their campaign.
Copenhagen on the other hand will not be confident of upsetting the Italians though, as the Danish champions lie 10th in their league after a torrid run that has seen FCK win just one match since April. The club has been changing managers, losing good players and it would not be wrong to say that they are not in their best state at the moment.
Meanwhile, Galatasaray will get a chance to avenge their Champions League loss in last year’s quarterfinal to Real Madrid when the two meet in a Champions League group game on Tuesday. Last year, Galatasaray beat Real Madrid in Turkey in the second leg of their battle, 3-2. However, Madrid won with an aggregate score of 5-3.
Real Madrid are a different team to what Galatasaray faced last season though. For starters there’s a change in manager with Mourinho leaving and Ancelotti taking charge. The addition of Isco and Bale will certainly boost their attack. However the loss of Ozil was left a sour taste for many of Madrid’s fans.
What to expect from the Matches –
Juve have had a good start in the league but do have a few key absences in Marchisio, possibly Vucinic, and Barzagli. The 3-5-2 should overpower the Danes’ compact 4-4-2 or a 4-4-1-1 as long as the basics are covered with protecting Pirlo and the wingback’s putting in a good shift both in offense and defense.
Over at Real Madrid, Iker Casillas will start an official game for Real Madrid after some tough months on the bench. Carlo Ancelotti recovers Arbeloa and could have some rotations in mind after Bale and Illarramendi played for 60 minutes in their debut with the club this Saturday.
Galatasaray usually play with a narrow midfield however, but they cannot afford to give space to Bale and Ronaldo on the flanks so it would not be a surprise to see Galatasaray go for a more traditional 4-4-2 or a 4-2-3-1 setup to try and reduce the threat posed by two of the best wingers in the world.
Players to watch out for –
Gareth Bale –
The threat of Cristiano Ronaldo will always linger over the Galatasaray goal all eyes will be on the Welshman Gareth Bale as he is all set to make his Champions league debut for Real Madrid.
Carlos Tevez –
Carlos Tevez was a steal-of-a-buy by Juventus this season and he has always been a goal scorer regardless of whichever team he has played for. He looks happy at Juventus and will most likely open the scoring for the Italian Giants.
Probable Line ups and Predictions –
There is only winner in this game and that’s Juventus. Too much quality in that Juventus squad and it’s very difficult to pull off an upset for the Danish side.
FCK 0 – 2 Juventus (C.Tevez and Vidal)
Though Galatasaray at home is a difficult team to beat but again there is too much quality in that Real Madrid squad who if gel together can beat any team on their day.
Galatasaray 1 – 3 Real Madrid
Drogba to score for the Turkish side and Bale, Cristiano and Isco to share the 3 goals for the Spanish giants.
