The Europa League champions Chelsea start off their bid to go one step higher this season by bagging the top prize in Europe by conquering the Champions League under new manager Jose Mourinho. With FC Basel who famously beat Manchester United in the 2011/12 season and advanced to the round of 16 at the expense of the English side having a decent record against English sides, it’s not as easy as it seems for Mourinho’s men.
Chelsea head into this game having lost their first league match on return of ‘The Special One’ to Chelsea with a 1-0 loss against Everton. While FC Basel themselves haven’t had the best of starts to their domestic season.
General Style of Play –
Chelsea as usual will not leak many goals but would certainly want to make a mark after their dismal show at Goodison Park this weekend in front of goal. Expect Basel to sit deep and try to shut out Chelsea, but unsuccessfully.

For Chelsea it’ll be the likes of Juan Mata and John Terry who will need to provide the attacking flair and defensive solidity respective and for Basel Frei would be the key man if FC Basel want to take anything away from Stanford Bridge.
What to expect from the match –
Dominance from Chelsea, Jose would not have been happy with the display this weekend and will want to make a positive statement at the expense of FC Basel. FC Basel on the other hand will rely on counter-attacks and hope that the Chelsea attackers have another off day at the Bridge.
Torres, if started, will score the opening goal along with Lampard and one from Hazard to make it 3-0 for Chelsea. One simply cannot see Basel taking anything away from Stanford Bridge this week.
