Chelsea holds their comfortable lead in the points table after defeating the defending champion and host of this match Leicester City by 3-0.
Chelsea’s Marcos Alonso scored a brace as he scored each goal at early of the both halves (6’ and 51’). Later, Pedro extended the visitors’ lead on 71 minutes.
Chelsea took an early lead through Alonso’s first goal on 6 minutes. Azpilicueta produced a beautiful curling cross into the penalty box and that was badly dealt by the hosts’ defenders which helped Hazard to pass the ball to Alonso. Alonso finished that ball comfortably to open the scoreline for his team.
Before that goal, Leicester City also had a chance to score an early goal. On just 80 seconds of the match, hosts’ forward Ahmed Musa was looking dangerous into the penalty box but an attack was thwarted thanks to the alertness of Chelsea’s defenders and the goalkeeper.
On the 37th minute, the foxes had a great chance to score a goal. After receiving a pass from Albrighton, Vardy beating Cahill made a dangerous low cross towards Chelsea’s goal-line but the visitors’ goalie Courtois showed a superb save as that made no harm for the visitors.
On the 43rd minute, a clever move from Chelsea almost brought their second goal in the match. Reading the hosts defence strategy at the time of free-kick, David Luiz made a ground pass to Hazard who smartly produced a ball for Pedro but Pedro sailed that comfortably over the bar.
Just 5 minutes into the second half, Alonso scored his second goal of the match. Willian made a cross from a set-piece that was headed by Luiz to send back for Alonso who drove that towards the goal. The hosts’ goalie (Kasper Schmeichel) failed to save that shot due to a deflection by skipper Morgan.
On 58 minutes, Chelsea had an opportunity to extend their lead as Hazard was in one-on-one position with the goalkeeper but defender Morgan didn’t allow him to beat.
Alonso came very close to complete his hat-trick at 65 minutes. Mose’s cross found Alonso whose volley just missed the post.
On the 72nd minute, Pedro stretched Chelsea’s lead to 3-0. Willian’s chip beat Schmeichel and found Pedro who comfortably netted the ball.
After that, there were few talking points util the end as Chelsea clinched a 3-0 victory over the hosts.
With this victory, Chelsea regained 7-point lead over the current second placed team Tottenham Hotspur who had also clinched a victory earlier on the day against the visitors West Brom by 4-0. Spurs forward Harry Kane had scored a hat-trick in that game.
On the other hand, defending champion Leicester City retained the 15th spot on the points table with 21 points.
