Colombia need victory vs Poland to reach pre-quarters: Falcao

Kazan (Russia), June 22: Colombia football captain Radamel Falcao said on Thursday that their upcoming 2018 World Cup clash against Poland is crucial since both teams have not gained any points thus far.

In their World Cup Group H opener, Poland and Colombia were each defeated 1-2 on Tuesday by Senegal and Japan, respectively, reports Efe.

“Both teams need to win … our team is very competitive and the match has to be played as if it were a final. It is either them or us,” the 32-year-old AS Monaco striker said in a press conference.

“We improved the positive aspects the team displayed against Japan. However, both in victory and defeat there are always details to improve. How we played on Tuesday gave us a vision of what Columbia can do,” Columbia’s all-time leading goal scorer Falcao added.

In order to have a chance to qualify for the knockout stages, Falcao said that Los Cafeteros would spare no effort to win against the Polish on Sunday.

Japan and Senegal lead Group H with three points each, while Poland and Colombia have zero points.
