Corinthians, Botafogo Slip In Copa Libertadores Pursuit

Rio de Janeiro, Nov 27 (IANS) Brazilian football club Corinthians were held to a goalless home draw by Atletico Paranaense in Serie A.

The result here on Saturday left Corinthians, six-time champions, in the seventh place in the standings, a point behind Botafogo with one match remaining in the season, reports Xinhua.

The top six teams will earn a berth in next year’s Copa Libertadores, South America’s premier club competition.

Meanwhile, Botafogo continued their shaky end to the season when they were held to a 1-1 home draw by Ponte Preta.

The Rio de Janeiro outfit, promoted from the Serie B last year, have not won since October 19.

In Saturday’s only other top-flight match, Sport Recife drew 2-2 at America Mineiro.
