The Gunners were dealt a cruel blow in their pursuit of the third consecutive FA Cup victories when they were dumped out of the competition at the Emirates by a Watford side whose season just keeps getting better by the day.

Goals from Ighalo and Guedioura were enough to send the Gunners pacing even as Welbeck pulled one back in the later stages of the game. This has left the London franchise with no real chance of silverware this season.

To add salt to the pinch, Watford goalkeeper Heurelho Gomes said after the victory that Arsenal have been made to look like a “small team” this season and do not look like winning the Premier League title.

The former Tottenham goalkeeper’s comments come in the wake of further criticism of Wenger whose job seems to be unsafe this summer.

With Arsenal now turning their attentions to attempting to overcome a 2-0 deficit in their Champions League last-16 tie against Barcelona on Wednesday, Gomes, an unused substitute on Sunday, told ESPN Brasil: “It is the best time to play Arsenal and we came to the match very confident”

“When you see Arsenal playing against big teams, they look like a small team,” Gomes added.

Just a month or so ago, Arsenal were tipped off to end the 10 year wait for a league title this season but the recent slump in form has seen them lose ground in the race to the top of the table.

However, the Watford shot-stopper felt that the London outfit do not look a title winning side and said that there were plenty of weaknesses that needed to be sorted out quickly.

“They don’t look like winning a title soon.”

“They are not strong defensively. It is the best time to play Arsenal and we came to the match very confident,” he said.

The Hornets were superb in the application of their game plan at the Emirates as they succeeded in frustrating the home side before scoring the first goal that took the whole sting out of the team.

For long Arsenal have been found wanting at the back and Gomes revealed that it was easy for their team to get this victory.

“We knew once we had the ball we’d be able to pass it around since Arsenal gives you too much space.”

“They are not strong defensively,” he added.

Arsenal currently sit third in the Premier League table, eight points behind Leicester City, and six behind local rivals Tottenham, who have played a game more.
