Rubin Kazan player Norik Avdalyan is making heads turn after netting a breathtaking back flip penalty during the Under-21 clash against Ural at the weekend.
Scoring a goal from penalty might seem one of the easiest ways to find the back of the net. But a keen observer of the game knows it is not so. Zico, Lionel Messi, David Beckham, Cristiano Ronaldo, John Terry Roberto Baggio are some of the handful of stars who missed crucial penalties for their side. Most recently, Riyad Mahrez ballooned over a crucial penalty for Manchester City against Liverpool.
So there is absolutely no denying that a player needs a steely resolve to bury a penalty. Well, Norik Avdalyan has perhaps got something which is far more than only steely resolve as he scored one of the most incredible goals from the spot the game has ever seen.
The Russian starlet sent social media into meltdown after he bamboozled goalkeeper Yaroslav Hodzyur with his audacious spot-kick. The 22-year old, who only joined Rubin in the summer, is making all the right moves at his new side. And the latest goal is bound to enhance his reputation.
The midfielder left the opposition goalkeeper stunned and confused as the ball rifled into the top right corner.
Avdalyan stood as usual the goalkeeper and the referee got ready for the penalty. But as soon as the whistle was blown, Avdalyan took a few steps ahead as if he was taking a regular penalty but instead performed a backward somersault to score. Not surprisingly, he burst into celebration as soon as the ball hit the net.
Here is a clip of that stunner from Norik Avdalyan:

The goal, meanwhile, is no fluke. Last year, he had banged in a similar kind of goal for Team NSFL. FC Rubin Kazan also took to Twitter to post a video of their viral star, showing his backflip penalty on the training ground as well.

Scoring a goal is always a matter of delight for a player. However, the goal rarely delights a player when it adds up to the opposition’s scoreboard. Well, you must have guessed it correctly that we are talking about own goal – a dreaded scene for any player. And Manchester City defender Abbie McManus finds herself in a similar spot after scoring arguably the most bizarre own-goal of all time.
McManus’ stunning howler from 50-yards gave Birmingham City the lead in the Women’s Premier League. No one would have predicted what was going to follow when McManus decided to pass the ball to her team’s goalkeeper from the opposition half. However, what followed thereafter was hardly believable.
McManus hit a lofted ball towards her teammate only to see the ball bouncing over her and find the back of the net. The goalkeeper should have comfortably dealt with the ball but misread the bounce and paid the price by conceding an embarrassing goal.

The goalkeeper was perhaps confused by the rules regarding dealing with backpasses as instead of parrying the ball with her hands she decided she had to head the ball away. As a result, she could only see the ball skimming off the top of her head and bounce into the empty net.
City then took another setback when Birmingham went 2-0 up just after the break. However, City’s highly-rated team mounted a brilliant comeback to win the game and save the day for McManus as well as their goalie.

Paris erupted in firecrackers, flares, shouts and tears of joy, as France beat Belgium 1-0 to make it to the finals of the FIFA World Cup 2018.
The fans came out in numbers on streets to celebrate the monumental win. Red smoke rose up from flares fired by fans on the Right Bank esplanade outside City Hall, where crowds watched a broadcast of the semifinal win.
Firecrackers popped in quick succession and were accompanied by car horns and football chants – ‘On est en finale!’ or ‘we’re in the final!’
Here are a couple of clips showing the fans enjoying the triumph:

France will now face Croatia in the FIFA World Cup 2018 final after edging past Belgium.
Defender Samuel Umtiti scored the winning goal for the 1998 champions in the second half with a towering header from Antoine Griezmann’s corner.
The Les Bleus were on the back foot for large periods of the game. However, they came up with a fighting display and held on to their slender lead to reach their third final.
Meanwhile, the celebrations led to ugly scenes, as hundreds of fans clashed with riot cops in Paris. The police had to use tear gas and missile to bring the situation under control.
In other parts of France, the fans jumped on to cars and stripped naked in civic fountains to celebrate the win.
France will be looking to win the upcoming clash after enduring heartbreaks in their last two major finals. They lost to Italy in penalties in the 2006 World Cup final. In 2016, they lost the Euro Cup final to Portugal at home.
Football and controversy go hand in hand. While the whole world is gripped with the football fever due to the ongoing World Cup in Russia, an unfortunate off-field incident has grabbed the headlines. Julieth Gonzalez Theran, a female Colombian reporter working for Deutsche Welle, a German news station, was allegedly groped by a man when she was doing a show for her channel.
While she was on air, a man appeared and forcibly kissed her cheek and grabbed her breasts.
In the video, Theran can be seen reporting at a busy square. She tells the camera that behind her is a clock counting down until the start of the World Cup in the city. And she continued with her work, a man appeared to put a hand over the reporter’s breast before kissing her on the cheek. Theran, however, kept on speaking without being distracted by the man’s antics.

She later took to Instagram to express her anger and disappointment.
“Respect!! We don’t deserve this deal. We are equally valuable and professional. I share the joy of football, but we must understand the limits of affection and harassment,” read her message.
Meanwhile, the World Cup is all set to enter its business phase soon. Russia and Uruguay, on Wednesday, became the first two teams to qualify for the knockouts. At the same time, Saudi Arabia and Egypt became the first two sides to be dumped out of the competition.
While the Senegal players did their country proud with their exploits on the field, their fans did the same with their brilliant gesture off it. On Monday (June 19), moments after Senegal won their FIFA World Cup 2018-opener against Poland, Jubilant Senegal fans celebrated in style by tidying up the stands.
There were jubilant scenes all around after the win over Poland made Senegal the first African team to win at this year’s tournament in Russia.
By beating Poland, the African side saved not just their country’s but their continent’s blushes. The 2-1 victory was the first and only African win in the first round of matches, after Egypt, Morocco, Nigeria and Tunisia all lost their opening games.
A few hours later, Egypt lost their second game, getting thrashed by hosts Russia.
But while supporters could have been forgiven for celebrating, videos have instead been going viral showing fans methodically cleaning up after themselves in the emptying stadium. The African fans refused to go overboard after the win and showed their class with the beautiful gesture.
Here is a clip showing the Senegal fans cleaning the ground:
Meanwhile, fans cleaning up the stands is not new in this World Cup. Japan fans have also been garnering praise on social media for their sense of social responsibility.
Following the stunning 2-1 win over Colombia, the Japanese fans stayed in the ground to clear their portion of the stadium.
India’s inspirational football captain, Sunil Chhetri cannot stop winning hearts.
The 33-year old has been all over the news for the past one week for all the right reasons. Wherever Sunil goes, the fans are turning up in huge numbers to back him and his team.
It all started after his heartfelt plea following the Intercontinental Cup-opener against Chinese Taipei. Chhetri had scored a hat-trick to fire India to a massive 5-0 win.
However, the game was attended by a mere 2,500 fans. Disappointed with the lack of support, Chhetri had taken to Twitter and made an emotional plea to Indians for supporting the national football.
The video garnered huge attention from fans, media and celebrities alike. And the fans responded brilliantly. They flocked to the stadiums in the following games and the Indian team also responded in style.
On Sunday, the Blue Tigers beat Kenya by 2-0 to win the tournament. Chhetri once again starred, scoring both the goals to cap off the tournament in a dream style.
— Indian Football Team (@IndianFootball) June 10, 2018
The brace helped Chhetri take his goal- tally to 64. It also helped him join Argentina star Lionel Messi as the second highest international goal-scorer among active players.
Meanwhile, the players and the fans celebrated the triumph over Kenya in style. But after the game, an incident happened that made Chhetri furious. When the skipper was walking back towards the dressing room, one fan threw an Indian flag towards him for an autograph. Disgusted with the behaviour, Chhetri was quick to react, asking the fans not to do it.
Here is a clip of that incident:
The much awaited official song of the FIFA World Cup 2018 is released. The singer has posted the video of ‘Live it Up’. The song starts with subtitles of ‘Where there is unity, there is victory’.
US DJ and songwriter Diplo produce the video. The song was recorded by Nicky Jam in partnership with legendary US actor Will Smith and Albanian singer, Era Istrefi. The actor also makes the appearance at the beginning of the video.
32 Teams will battle it out for World Cup Glory.
The trio will perform the song before the first kick of the final of the FIFA World Cup 2018. The final will take place at the Luzhniki Stadium in Moscow. The stadium has a capacity of 81,000 people.
The video has already become a hit sensation. Therefore, the video was able to make 70,000 views in less than an hour.
The official video of the FIFA features scenes from Moscow’s Luzniki Stadium. It has the typical goal celebrations of the pivotal players from the previous editions of the World Cup.
Former Brazilian and Barcelona star, Ronaldinho also makes his appearance in the video. Meanwhile, there are also fans of participating countries in the released video.
Meanwhile, this is the first time that Russia will be hosting a Football World Cup. The coveted tournament will run from June 14 to July 15 at 12 stadiums in 11 different cities across the country.
The 32 teams will battle it out in Moscow, Kaliningrad, Saint Petersburg, Volgograd, Kazan, Nizhny Novgorod, Samara, Saransk, Rostov-on-Don, Sochi and Yekaterinburg.

The Indian team steamrolled over Chinese Taipei by a massive 5-0 win in the Intercontinental Cup 2018 opener in Mumbai.
India captain, Sunil Chhetri stamped his authority with a memorable hat-trick, going on to show the men in blue are a force to reckon with in the competition.
India lock-horns against Kenya next on June 4 at the same ground where they annihilated Chinese Taipei. But before that, in an emotional video, Chhetri appealed to the masses in the country to come and watch them play.
India is a country full of ardent cricket supporters. More often than not the game of football is eclipsed by the glitz and glamour of the game of cricket.
The country is obsessed with the likes of MS Dhonis, and the Virat Kohlis. But, if we normalise the contribution of Sunil Chhetri to Indian football, it may be at par with the cricketing superstars.
“To all of you who are fans of big European clubs and support European clubs with so much passion and sometimes you guys think that the level is not the same, so why do you waste your time?” asked Chhetri.
Agreed, the level is not the same, not even close but with our desire and determination, we will try our best to make your time worth,” claimed Chhetri during the video.
“I mean it’s not fun to criticise and abuse on the internet. Come to the stadium, do it on our face, scream at us, shout at us, abuse us, who knows one day we might change you guys, you might start cheering for us. You guys have no idea how important you guys are and how important your support is,” the skipper appealed.
Here’s the video
This is nothing but a small plea from me to you. Take out a little time and give me a listen.

While Chennai fans were lauded by many for being knowledgeable and their unflinching support to their team, Chennaiyin FC in the Indian Super League, a shocking video that is going viral across social media is enough to show that there is still a long way to go before they call themselves an ideal sports fan.
The video shows a Chennaiyin FC fan harassing a few women from the northeast at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium when the city-based team was taking on NorthEast United FC on Thursday (November 23).
In the video, the hooligan could be seen dancing and making obscene gestures at a couple of female fans and shocking the other spectators were enjoying it. With no one coming to their aid, one of the women tried to push the miscreant away, but it did not make any difference, as once again started harassing them.
Here is the clip showing the unfortunate incident:

Meanwhile, NorthEast United owner John Abraham slammed the incident, and said the team stood by the fan who was “victimised”.
“It’s deeply disturbing to me when sports becomes an unsafe or unharmonious place for anyone. Everything I have taken back from the sport has been only positive, from learning to play with people who are different, learning to take a loss with a sense of sportsmanship, winning with humility,” the Bollywood actor said.

Chennaiyin FC also condemned the incident and stated that the club would take strict action to prevent such mishaps from occurring in the future.
“Chennaiyin FC has a very strict and firm policy against racism and any unbecoming behaviour in the stadium. The club strongly condemns any such act. We are looking into any such incidents and will take strong action against it,” the club said in a statement.

Arsenal club hierarchy might be sweating over a new contract for German play-maker Mesut Ozil but the midfielder is currently enjoying his time in the pre-season training.
The 28-year old is known for his immense vision in passing as he often proved that he can pick out a pass on the ground that no one else could see.
The Gunners are currently camped in Australia as they continue their pre-season tour which will see them play couple more games in Australia then move to Asia and tour Singapore and China.
Ozil, who is training along with his teammates has once again showed all the doubters why he is so highly rated by Wenger and the club officials. He has simply taken on three defenders and split them with a simple pass to his teammate in the final third.
Arsenal social media channels were so happy that they shared the short clip on both twitter and Instagram. The caption of the tweet read: “@MesutOzil1088 doing what @MesutOzil1088 does…”

Meanwhile, Arsenal and Arsene Wenger are determined to tie down Alexis Sanchez and Mesut Ozil to new contracts as both the players entered their final year in their respective contracts.
Mesut Ozil is preferring to stay with the club by signing a new deal but a decision over Alexis Sanchez is yet to be made public. The German international has iterated his interest in staying at Emirates beyond next season on Wednesday in Australia.
“It is definitely my preference to stay,” the German said on Wednesday.
“Once everyone is back in London, we will sit down and discuss the future. I have always said that I feel very good at Arsenal.”
However, it would be a foolish thing to let a player of Ozil’s calibre leave the club for free and Arsenal will need to act quick as he still has three to four years of top flight football still left in him.
