Despite being the former manager of FC Barcelona, Luis Enrique believes the foundation of Spain is Real Madrid and so far it seems reasonable.
Luis Enrique admits it will be difficult to find any reason to criticise his players.
Spain, who had a disappointing FIFA World Cup in Russia is off to a great start in the UEFA Nations League. After beating England 2-1, they have thrashed the World Cup finalist Croatia 6-0.
After the new manager announced his new side, the numbers of players from Real Madrid tops the list. And none of the players gave any opportunity to criticise the former Barcelona manager. Enrique said in the post-match press conference,
“The attitude of all the players has been very good. It is difficult to criticise anything in a match that saw such a high level of performance. I have nothing to object against; I liked almost everything I saw. There has been a notable power shift in personnel from Barcelona to Real Madrid.”
The manager also believes Spain is on the right track, but exactly not there yet.
“It’s difficult to overcome a team like Croatia who push like they do. They are able to score, but we were superior. We have to win again against England or Croatia. We’re on the right track, but we’re not there yet. Now it is time to continue to work.”
In the 6-0 thrashing, three Real Madrid starts Sergio Ramos, Marco Asensio and Isco were on the score-sheet. Asensio was named the man of the match for one goal and three remarkable assists.
After the FIFA World Cup exit against hosts Russia, everything has changed for Spain then. Three majors players Andres Iniesta, David Silva and Gerard Pique announced retirement from international football.
