Gerard Pique was unhappy with penalties not being awarded to his team that seemed like clear-cut calls.
Pique will now face a 3,000 euro fine for his complaints about referees after the games against Athletic and Villarreal in the Copa del Rey and La Liga respectively. The program Partidazo de COPES put forward the news on their twitter account, reporting the fine was 1,500 for each game.
Against Athletic Pique was angry about the refereeing of Fernandez Borbalan when he didn’t award Neymar a clear penalty, while it was Iglesias Villanueva he was unhappy with when he refused to give Barcelona a penalty for a Bruno Soriano handball.
“I think it’s a clear penalty (on Neymar),” he said after the Athletic game. “I think mine with the goalkeeper is another penalty, but we know how this works. We want to play football and not roulette.”
After the Villarreal game, he posted a tweet highlighting big refereeing errors made in the Barcelona game and the differences from when Madrid played the same opponents.
“Against the same teams. 8 points. Those clips are from the Madrid press if you doubted,” he tweeted.
