Barcelona are in the market to sign a right back this summer as they look to improve their squad quality to compete in all the three competitions next season.
The Blaugrana looked poor in their back line throughout the season and the new manager Ernesto Valverde is keen to strengthen the team ahead of the new campaign, according to reports in Spain.
Having let Brazilian defender Dani Alves leave the club for free, Barca are yet to find a possible replacement for the 33-year old as the right side of the defense looked the most weak area in their lineup as they filled the role with Sergi Roberto who is a natural attacking winger.
Barcelona are heavily linked with a move to Benfica defender Nelson Semedo in the recent weeks but there has been lot of pessimism over the deal as the Portuguese club are looking for a massive €55m. However, the Spanish giants believe that it is a lot of money for the 23-year old who is yet to prove himself against big teams.
This has reportedly led their sights towards Arsenal young full back Hector Bellerin. The Spanish defender was an academy graduate from Barca before he moved to London at the age of 16. He has developed into one of the best young right backs in the world over the past few years.
The report suggests that the Catalan club are more in favor of Arsenal’s defender and could be available for a smaller fee. The Gunners could consider any bid which is around 50m euros but it cannot be easy for the Spanish club to pull off a deal.
Bellerin currently has a contract with Arsenal till 2023 as there are still six years left in his ongoing deal. The recent contract extension of manager Arsene Wenger could also play a massive role in Bellerin’s decision as the Frenchman is crucial in his rise as a player at the club.
There are also suggestions that Barca should use Turkish international Arda Turan as part of the deal to pull the signing but the club are keen to sell him to one of the Chinese clubs. It remains to be seen if Barcelona can manage to sign Bellerin by the end of August.
