After a hard fought season marred with crucial injuries, Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool managed to get into the top 4 of the points table, making themselves a place in the Champions League for the next season.
The Reds were one of the most exciting attacks in the Premier League in the previous season and the addition of Mohamed Salah will only make them stronger for the next season.
However, their biggest enemy has been their defensive unit, which is far from world class.
The likes of Dejan Lovren and Ragnar Klavan are not first team material and Liverpool have been looking to add a centre back to their squad.
One player constantly linked with a move to Anfield is Dutch international Virgil van Dijk.

The former Celtic man was one of the most wanted players in England at the end of the previous season but Liverpool were ready to meet Southampton’s valuation and reportedly also agreed on a deal with the player.
However, tapping allegations saw them apologise to Southampton for their approach, withdrawing interest from the player.
Van Dijk only interested in Liverpool
It seemed as though Liverpool missed an opportunity to snatch the Dutch star after the apology but it is now understood that Liverpool are once again back in the race to sign Van Dijk before the start of the next season.
According to reports from the Express, Van Dijk is now unsettled at the St Mary’s and has his heart set on a move to Liverpool.
The report claims that Van Dijk has now skipped training with the Southampton first team and is readying himself for a move to Anfield.
It is also understood that he is ready to offer a transfer request if that is what it takes for Southampton to sell him this summer.
However, Southampton are under no obligation to sell, as VVD has more than three years left on his current contract with the club.

Southampton want £75m
However, it is hard to see the Saints reject any offer from Liverpool close to their valuation of the player.
According to certain reports, Southampton value Van Dijk at an astonishing £75m and if Liverpool make a bid meeting the valuation, Van Dijk will shift allegiances.
It is a humungous fee for a defender but is an investment that will solve the problems at Anfield for years to come but do you think Liverpool should spend £75m on Van Dijk this summer?
