Huge Trouble:Chelsea Could Lose Points After The Etihad Brawl

Chelsea might not have lost a single point in the Premier League in months but they are now in danger of losing points for their repeated failures of controlling their players during the mass brawl towards the end of their 3-1 win over Manchester City at the Etihad on December 3.

The ugly fight broke out after City striker Sergio Aguero’s nasty two-footed lunge on Chelsea star David Luiz. The Argentina international was given a straight red by the referee but the players from either side got in an ugly fight. Chelsea players were furious with the reckless challenge while the City players tried to defend their teammates which resulted in ugly scenes. The fight between Cesc Fabregas and Fernandinho was the focal point of the brawl. The Spain international had allegedly slapped the City midfielder following which the Brazil international pushed over the hoardings after grabbing his throat. The City star was given a straight red for his offence but the Chelsea midfielder escaped any punishment.

Aguero and Fernandinho have been slapped with a four and three-match bans respectively while both the teams were charged by the Football Association (FA) for the brawl but Sunday Mirror has now reported that the Blues are now in danger of points deduction.

The Stamford Bridge outfit have already been fined four times for violating FA rules on player conduct in the past 19 months. The Blues were severely warned and fined last term for the ugly scenes against Tottenham Hotspur and can now face dire consequences.

Back then, a statement from the FA had said:”The Board is satisfied the greater fine on Chelsea fairly reflects its role in the incident and its lamentable recent record for failing properly to control its players. The time cannot be too far distant when a Commission concludes the only proper sanction is a points deduction.”

Meanwhile, Antonio Conte’s men will be looking to extend their winning run to eight games when they take on West Brom today. Arsenal are currently leading the standings on goal difference after the 3-1 win over Stoke City yesterday but a draw or win will see the Blues move to the top again.
