Indian Football Colts Beaten By Setubal’S U-17 Team On Exposure Tour

New Delhi, April 18 (IANS) The Indian U-17 World Cup squad, currently on an exposure trip, lost 1-2 against the youth team of the Portuguese club Vitoria de Setubal in their first practice match at the Jose Mourinho Training Center in Troia, Lisbon on Tuesday.

In a tightly contested match, the Indian colts matched blow for blow against their opponents, but were left reeling in front of the goal as chances created were seldom taken, according to an AIFF release here.

Though the Indian team dominated possession in the opening minutes of the match, it were the opponents who created the first goal scoring chance of the match.

In the 16th minute, Setubal U-17 rattled the Indian crossbar and eventually took the lead in the 38th minute after Bruno Ventura scored from a penalty kick that was awarded for a reckless Indian tackle inside the box. The half-time scoreline read 1-0.

Changing over, the Indian colts upped the ante and pressed for the equaliser. Aniket Jadhav’s shot in the 47th minute went inches over the bar and a minute later his shot again flew whiskers wide of the goal.

The Indian Colts finally equalised in the 67th minute after Aniket scored from the penalty spot making the scoreline read 1-1.

India tried to take the lead but could not find the decisive goal and Setubal U-17 struck in the 85th minute to take the winning lead 2-1.
