Injury Boost: Arsenal star begins training, all set to start against Swansea
Arsenal striker Lucas Perez will be fit to play against Swansea City on October 15th, according to the IBTimes UK.
Perez missed his team’s 1-0 win at Burnley due to a swollen knee, but the IBTimes claim the former Deportivo de La Coruna man will be available for selection against the Swans next week.
The Spaniard joined the Gunners in August for a reported fee of €20m but has only played 154 minutes for Wenger’s side so far.
Even though he hasn’t played much so far, he scored 2 goals in Arsenal’s 4-0 win at Nottingham Forest in EFL Cup’s third round last month.
Perez signed a long-term contract with Arsenal and will have plenty of time to establish himself in Wenger’s starting eleven.
He’s a fast, technically astute player that excites the fans and the Arsenal faithful will have another chance to see him in action if Wenger decides he’s fit enough to participate against a currently managerless side.
Despite some suggestions he was fit to play, it was believed the Spanish striker suffered some swelling to his knee after training late last week. Although the inflammation had died down the next morning, Arsene Wenger was not willing to take the risk of bringing him into the travelling squad for an away game.
Had it been a home game he might well have been included in the squad, which goes some way to clearing up the confusion that has surrounded the former Deportivo man’s absence from the panel last Sunday.
With Alexis Sanchez playing well up front, his chances have been limited so far, but he did score a penalty and an excellent solo goal in the 4-0 win over Nottingham Forest in the EFL Cup.
There’s more action in that competition after the Interlull when Arsenal entertain Reading on October 25th, a game which should provide him with another start on top of whatever minutes he manages in the two Premier League games and one Champions League fixture before that.
