Chelsea midfielder Nemanja Matic is ready to link up with his former manager Jose Mourinho at Manchester United, according to reports.
The Serbian international was signed back by Mourinho back in 2014 and had played a crucial role in their title winning season back then. The midfielder had a very good year under Antonio Conte last season as the Blues were once again crowned as the Premier League champions.
However, according to The Sun, the 28-year old fears that he could be surplus to the club’s requirements and believes he played his last game for Chelsea last season.
The Blues are pushing for Bakayoko from AS Monaco and are also linked with moves to Marco Verratti and others in central midfield as Antonio Conte looks determined to strengthen his squad.
Meanwhile, Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho is also in the market to sign a new defensive midfielder and feels that Matic would be a great addition to his squad. The report suggests that Matic’s representatives are in constant touch with Jose over a deal.
Tottenham midfielder Eric Dier is also among Jose Mourinho’s wishlist for the defensive midfield role but manager Mauricio Pochettino is not ready to let their star player leave the club this summer.
Despite Manchester United’s interest in Matic, the deal depends on whether Blues owner Roman Abramovich is willing to let their midfielder join their direct rivals. The Blues are in search of a new central midfielder but are also willing to tie down Matic with a new deal.
The central midfield duo of Matic and Kante had played an important part in Blues’ campaign last season and Conte is ready to keep the Serbian. However, the report suggests that Matic believes it is the right time to leave Stamford Bridge as he is in prime years.
The Serbian midfielder had made 40 appearances for Chelsea and amassed 3147 minutes in their Premier League winning season. Chelsea also has Cesc Fabregas in their roster, who looked impressive last season despite lack of playing time and would be an ideal replacement for Serb if he decides to leave the club.
