Jurgen Klopp is running out of patience to bolster his Liverpool midfield, as the club too has scouted and targeted a number of players in that position, ranging from young talents to established names. However, its almost midway of the winter market and the Reds haven’t made any substantial move to sign a midfielder. Although their long term target remains Jude Bellingham, he won’t be available before the summer.

As a result, Liverpool are expected to make some acquisitions this month, and have been linked with a number of names. The latest to be linked with the Reds, and that too it is being claimed the request has directly come for Klopp to sign the player, is Valencia’s Yunus Musah. The former Arsenal academy midfielder has been garnering the attention of some top-clubs, but his recent breakthrough with the USA at the World Cup now has potential suitors on their toes.

Klopp wants Liverpool to swoop in for Musah who could be available for €20m

Yunus Musah, a product of Arsenal’s famous London Colney academy left the Gunners back in 2019 to join Valencia’s, with an aim to achieve first-team minutes sooner than later. He was then promoted to the first-team 12 months later and made his debut for the Bats in the 20/21 season. Since then, Musah has impressed with a staggering 84 appearances for Valencia across two-and-a-half-years with the first-team, establishing his place as a regular in the starting eleven.

His breakthrough arrived in Qatar at the 2022 FIFA World Cup, where Musah, who despite holding the nationality of both England and the USA, opted to represent the latter at international stage. The 20-year-old started all four of the USMNT’s fixtures at the tournament and commanded the midfield forming a partnership with captain Tyler Adams.

Those performances have now attracted the attention of Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp, who boycotted the Qatar World Cup, but still watched it from his home. According to Italian outlet Calcio Mercato, Klopp has personally ‘requested’ the club to sign Musah, who could be easily fetchable given Valencia’s financial struggles. Klopp has been massively impressed with the midfielder’s versatility and physical ability to press relentlessly, a key trait of his set-up at Anfield.

Musah’s current deal with Valencia expires in the summer of 2026, and his asking price is set at a mere €20m which could soar high if he keeps performing at the highest level. The Athletic’s highly reliable journalist David Ornstein in his column while covering the World Cup had claimed that Valencia are ready to entertain the offers for their young midfielder and that some of the Premier league sides had shown interest as well. Ornstein had revealed:

“Valencia have been open to offers for him [Musah] in the past but meaningful interest failed to materialise. The La Liga club are still willing to listen to bids and hope Musah’s impressive displays in Qatar might stimulate the market for him. The opportunity is being explored by a number of Premier League clubs, with Valencia’s financial position meaning he would be available for north of €20million. Musah, who is under contract until the end of the 2025-26 season, is thought to be keen on experiencing a new challenge after three and a half years in Spain.”

With Liverpool’s midfield turning old as majority of their key players in that position, Jordan Henderson, Fabinho, Thiago Alcantara and James Milner past the age of 30, the Reds’ lack of solid options there have blown a massive dent to their season. Moreover, the likes of Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, Naby Keita and Arthur Melo are also set to depart at the end of the season, leaving Liverpool with only a handful of players in that position.
