Paris Saint-Germain midfielder Marco Verratti has reiterated his willingness to leave the French giants this summer as the move away from the club looks imminent.
The Italian international is being tracked by both Barcelona and Chelsea as the big duo are currently monitoring the situation of Verratti at PSG. The 24-year old is one of the best defensive midfielders in the world and had played a massive role in the success of PSG in the recent years.
Now, according to French newspaper L’Euipe, he has told the club that he will not be staying for the next season during a meeting with PSG sporting director Antero Henrique on Saturday.
The report also suggests that Verratti has threatened PSG that he will boycott pre-season training that is scheduled to begin on July 4 in a desperate attempt to leave the club.
The midfielder had previously worked with Antonio Conte in the Italian national team. The Blues boss is determined to sign him as a marquee signing this summer but will find it tough as there is stiff competition from Spanish giants Barcelona.
Verratti is valued at a massive €80 million (£69.9m) by the French giants and Chelsea will need to make a record-breaking deal to sign him. Antonio Conte is keen to add more quality to his squad with the Blues playing in Champions League next season.
The addition of the Italian midfielder would be ideal for the Premier League champions as his incredible awareness of holding his position throughout the game could prove decisive in shielding Chelsea’s back line in the big Champions League games.
Meanwhile, PSG are determined to keep hold of their star despite increasing interest from Barcelona and Chelsea. The Catalan club are considered favourites in landing him as new manager Ernesto Valverde made him his priority signing this summer.
The report from L’Equipe also suggests Verratti has told Henrique that he is looking to move to Barcelona this summer which almost makes them firm favourites. The new manager is keen to bring in a passing master and had failed to sign Manchester United midfielder Ander Herrera.
However, Chelsea are close to signing Tiemoue Bakayoko from AS Monaco in a £50 million deal after managing a breakthrough in the talks with the French champions.
