Hull City defender Andy Robertson left the club’s training camp in Portugal as Liverpool closes in, according to reports.
Liverpool need new left back
The Reds are in the market to strengthen their squad and left back position is one of the foremost concerns for Jurgen Klopp going into the new season.
Alberto Moreno had failed to make any impact as a left back which has made the German tactician to address it with a new signing.
Although James Milner has played as the left back for the Reds last season, in quite an unfamiliar role, the club are looking for a quality left back.
Liverpool are set to make a comeback into Premier League this season and James Milner could prove ineffective in the elite competition against the best players. Ryan Sessegnon was tipped to be one of the primary targets but the youngster decided to extend his contract with Fulham.
According to BBC reporter David Burns, Liverpool have turned their sights to Hull City’s Robertson and the two clubs had agreed a £8 million fee over the weekend.
The Scottish international was close to joining Burnley last month but the Premier League side were reluctant to meet Hull’s asking price.
Robertson would add much-needed depth to Liverpool’s left back position. Klopp would be having two reliable defenders on the left side if he decides to use Milner as a defender once again this season.
The 23-year old Robertson has made 115 appearances for Hull City after moving from Dundee United in a £3 million transfer back in 2014.
He has since then grown into a complete full back during his time with Hull and raked up an impressive 33 league appearances for the club last season.
The arrival of Robertson would mean Alberto Moreno would be shown the exit door from Anfield. The Spaniard had failed miserably over the past couple of seasons under Jurgen Klopp.
The 25-year old had drawn a lot of criticism last season when he failed to deliver for the club. He is drawing plenty of interest from various European clubs after making a mere 12 Premier League appearances.
Robertson would become the third signing for Liverpool this summer after Dominic Solanke and Mohamed Salah. The Reds are also looking for other players including RB Leipzig’s Naby Keita and Southampton’s Virgil van Dijk.
Jurgen Klopp still remains considerably calm in the transfer market despite hefty spendings made by their title rivals so far this summer.
