Liverpool, Jan 31: Liverpool chief coach Jurgen Klopp said the club does not need Arsenal-bound Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, opining they do not “urgently” need another striker.
Aubameyang, 28, has played under Klopp at Borussia Dortmund where he joined from St Etienne in July 2013.
“Auba is really a good guy,” Klopp was quoted as saying by DAZN on Tuesday. “Of course, reading the newspapers, you ask yourself if all these things must happen. But in fact things are mostly not that controversial as they are presented. In the end everybody will be happy.
“In the first half of the season he also scored often, although last summer he wanted to go to China allegedly. He is a great player but he does not play in a position for which we urgently need new players,” he added.
Meanwhile, speaking at a Rheinische Post gala dinner in Dusseldorf, Bayern Munich president Uli Hoeness said the drama surrounding Aubameyang at Dortmund “cannot be good for football.”
