Liverpool are determined to sign Arsenal midfielder Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain ahead of Chelsea, according to reports.
The 23-year old has joined Arsenal in 2011 from Southampton and went on to make 194 appearances over the past six seasons. He is heavily linked with a move away from Emirates this summer.
According to Daily Mirror, the Reds chiefs have made a direct enquiry to Arsenal over the availability of Oxlade-Chamberlain for a transfer. The Gunners are keen to have the player but could very well cash in on him despite rejecting initial approach made by Liverpool.
Liverpool’s manager Jurgen Klopp is ready to make some massive signings for the club after losing out in pursuit of Southampton’s Virgil van Dijk and German club RB Leipzig’s Naby Keita. The Reds are considered favourites to sign the midfielder despite interest from both Manchester City and Chelsea.
Meanwhile, Oxlade-Chamberlain had already expressed his dissatisfaction over playing as a wing back for Arsenal during the final stages of last season after their 2-1 win against Chelsea in FA Cup final. Oxlade-Chamberlain has only one year left in his contract with Arsenal and Arsene Wenger have not made any serious attempt to tie him down with a new deal.
The English international is one of the best players available in Premier League market this summer and is drawing lot of attention from Arsenal’s direct rivals. The Gunners are willing to accept a bid in the region of £25million and Liverpool need to make an offer to match it.
Arsenal are also sweating out to tie down Mesut Ozil and Alexis Sanchez to new deals at Emirates with both the players entering their final year in their contracts. On the other hand, Liverpool are looking to strengthen their squad for next season.
The Reds are set to return to Champions League and are ready to spend big in this window. They have already broke their transfer record to sign Mohamed Salah and are also linked with numerous high quality players. Liverpool will also be looking to challenge for Premier League as they have put in a valiant effort last season but had suffered an unusual slump in January to be left out of title race.
