After the defeat at home at the hands of the Red Devils, Liverpool now has suffered another setback with Southampton rejecting their bid for their frontman Shane Long.

The 28-year-old Irish international has been on the radar of the Reds given his brilliant showmanship at the St. Mary’s stadium. Long has scored 7 goals in his 11 appearances for the club across all competitions. And the forward debacle facing the Reds had prompted the management to make an 8 million pounds bid for the forward which was rejected by Ronald Koeman who is apprehensive of letting the Irish go to Anfield.

Klopp has been plagued by injuries to key players like Sturridge and Danny Ings who would have been Liverpool’s baton bearers. Also added to the woes of the German boss is the lack of form of Benteke and Origi who would have been potential replacements. Thus, the lack of replacements in the camp forced Klopp to graze pasture elsewhere.

Furthermore with Charlie Austin’s name added to the roster, the boss found Long to be an ideal partner for the former QPR man but his efforts have gone in vain as Southampton are in no hurry to let go of their premier man.

The Reds currently occupy the 9th position in the league and would have to make serious changes up front to put some points on the board. With only 31 points from 22 games, Klopp needs to change things around if Liverpool is to end the season in the top half of the table. With the aim to strength a shaky attack, the Reds are after a certain ex-Manchester United man who has been doing wonders in Germany. But Chicharito will only be available in the summer and making things difficult for the Reds are Arsenal and Tottenham who too are after the Mexican.

But this season is yet far from over and Klopp will hold back no weapon to make his mark in the Premier League.
