Manchester United are set to make a £36-million bid for Monaco starlet Anthony Martial, according to the Telegraph.

Manchester United are ready to gamble on Monaco teenager Anthony Martial as the solution to their goalscoring problems by launching a £36m move for the 19-year-old.

The young Frenchman has already agreed personal terms with Red Devils according to French media Le Parisien.

With Javier Hernandez expected to complete a move to Bayer Leverkusen before the Bundesliga transfer window closes on Monday evening, United manager Louis van Gaal is determined to add at least one forward to his squad to replace the departing Mexican.

Chelsea is also interested in the French young sensation and made a bid worth €55 million for him few days ago which was reported by AS.

And well-placed sources in France on Sunday night reported that United have contacted Monaco over the highly-rated French youngster Martial, who has just earned his first call-up into Didier Deschamps’ France squad.

Martial moved to Monaco from Lyon in a deal worth just £3.6m two years ago, but the youngster has scored 11 goals in 43 appearances for Leonardo Jardim’s club and is currently rated as one of the most exciting prospects in world football.

Martial, who was previously a target for Tottenham, has played at every level from Under-16 to Under-21 for France. Spurs were interested in a deal worth around £18m for Martial back in June.

Monaco, who were eliminated from the Champions League by Valencia last week, are ready to reject United’s attempts to sign Martial.

But talks between the two clubs are expected to continue on Monday, with United having done business with Monaco on the final day of last summer’s transfer window by sealing the unsuccessful season-long loan deal for Radamel Falcao.

With Hernandez set to leave for Leverkusen, Van Gaal risks being left with just one senior striker in Wayne Rooney if he fails to add to his squad before Tuesday’s 6 pm transfer deadline.

Rooney extended his Premier League goalless streak to ten games during Sunday’s 2-1 defeat at Swansea, while home-grown forward James Wilson has yet to appear for United this season.

United aborted a move for Barcelona forward Pedro Rodriguez earlier this month, prior to the player signing for Chelsea while long-running efforts to lure Gareth Bale from Real Madrid have proved unsuccessful.
