Manchester United Starts Negotiations Over New Contract For Ander Herrera
Manchester United have opened talks with Spanish midfielder Ander Herrera over a new contract, according to reports.
Best Manchester United Midfielder Last Season
The 27-year old has become one of the most reliable stars for Manchester United since his move to the club in 2014. Despite his good performances under Louis van Gaal, the Spaniard found his trait under Jose Mourinho last season.
His midfield partnership with Paul Pogba in central midfield had proved pivotal for the club’s success as they managed to win Europa League. He was also named as club’s best player of the season.
But this incredible form has only drew attention from other big clubs. The likes of Barcelona and Atletico Madrid were always keen on signing him. However, Manchester United are determined to tie him down on a new deal.
‘This is the best season so far,’ Herrera said at the end of last season. ‘But hopefully I can have better seasons because I don’t want to stop. I’m going to keep playing and keep improving and keep making our fans proud.’
The Spaniard’s contract at Manchester United will be expiring at the end of next season but they still have an option to extend another year. He is currently earning £100,000-a-week but the club are set to reward his performances with a new deal that will see him earn £175,000-a-week.
The Red Devils will also see the player’s contract extend until the summer of 2021. Jose Mourinho is heavily impressed with Herrera in his debut season as the 27-year old was at the centre of his plans.
The Portuguese tactician is keen to add more firepower to his attack and more options to his midfield this season as he looks to get more success both domestically and in Champions League.
The club are linked with Chelsea midfielder Nemanja Matic but the Blues can be reluctant over the transfer as they not willing to lose one of their best players this summer to their title rivals. On the other hand, the club are also linked with a move for Monaco midfielder Tiemoue Bakayoko and could seal a deal for one of them in the coming days.
