Newcastle Unitied cruise past West Brom 2-1, moves onto fifth in table
Newcastle United moved up to fifth spot in the league following their 2-1 win over the West Bromwich Albion as they notched up fourth succesive win after successes against Chelsea, Tottenham and Norwich City in November.
Yoan Gouffran opened the scoring in the 36th minute when he netted for the third home game in a row from a Yohan Cabaye corner. West Brom goalkeeper Boaz Myhill did not deal with the France international’s ball and Gouffran managed to head home to give the hosts the lead heading into the interval 1-0.
West Brom equalised eight minutes after the break when captain Chris Brunt smashed the ball in from a tight angle. Morgan Amalfitano won the ball on the right and sent in a cross that Shane Long could not connect, but Brunt was at the back post to get his side on level terms.
But, four minutes later the home side were back in front with for the second time on the night when Moussa Sissoko fired in a wonderful strike. Loic Remy laid the ball off to his fellow France international and the midfielder caught the ball beautifully sending it into the top right-hand corner to earn his team three points.
