Nigeria not among favourites at World Cup, says coach

Abuja, June 3: Nigeria’s head coach Gernot Rohr has downplayed his team’s chances at the forthcoming FIFA World Cup in Russia.

Rohr told the official news agency of Nigeria that the current rankings by world football governing body FIFA do not place the Nigerian team as favourites for winning the World Cup, reports Xinhua news agency.

“It is important for us not to think we can win the World Cup,” Rohr said on Saturday.

“We are not among the favourites. If you look at the FIFA rankings, you will see there are teams who are better than us,” he added.

Nigeria are at the 47th spot in the FIFA rankings for the month of May. They are sixth in Africa.
