English club Manchester City have made their first signing of this window after they completed the signing of 23 year old Australian Anthony Caceres from A League side Central Coast Mariners. However, it is expected that he will be immediately loaned out to City’s sister club Melbourne City. The midfielder has made 73 appearances for the A-League side and scored 3 goals after joining them in 2013.
A statement from the A-League club read: “The Central Coast Mariners can today confirm that the Club has agreed to terms with English Premier League Club Manchester City for the transfer of 23-year-old midfielder Anthony Caceres that will take immediate effect.”
His coach is very happy with the progress the yet-to-be capped Australian has made. We need to celebrate when players at the Central Coast Mariners are sold to bigger Clubs. It’s our charter. It’s our intent,” said Mariners’ Tony Walmsley. “This move demonstrates how far Anthony has progressed and symbolises how giving youth a chance works for both the Central Coast Mariners and young aspirational footballers.”
The fee is believed to be £150k. Manchester City feel is a player for the future and a talent to watch out for and hence they have made the signing. He won’t be making any appearances for City this seasons as he is going to be loaned out to Melbourne City. Many A – League clubs were after the midfielder but Melbourne City, with a little bit of help from Manchester City, have got their man.
The coach of Melbourne City is not saying much about his transfer as a loan move is yet to be formally announced.
Manchester City is getting him (Caceres) in. More or less, that’s it,” said the Dutchman “We can’t comment on (a potential loan move) but of course everybody knows he’s a good player, he’s one of the better players in the A-League. So we’ll just have to see.”.
