FC Porto host Premier League giants Chelsea FC for a crucial UEFA Champions League game week 2 tie on Tuesday night.
Chelsea is currently struggling at the 15th position of the league table just 8 points from the first 7 matches. The defense has been vulnerable since the beginning of the season. Jose Mourinho’s defending champions are finding it hard to win matches in the league. Only positive is they had won their opening Champions League fixture against Maccabi Tel-Aviv and they are currently at the top of the group table.
FC Porto is on a scintillating run of form as they are yet to lose a match in their league in the first 6 matches. They are at the top of the table and are also second in the group table as the drew against Dinamo Kiev in the previous encounter.
A win for Mourinho’s former team would take them to the top of the group table as well and would add more miseries to the manager’s current side. The match would also attract several eyeballs as the Chelsea manager face his old pupil and bitter enemy Iker Casillas. The duo shared a terrible relationship during Real Madrid days.
FC Porto, on the other hand, had to settle for a 2-2 draw with Dynamo Kiev in their first Champions League match of the season after Vitaliy Buyalsky’s late equaliser denied the Portuguese side all three points.
But Julen Lopetegui’s team are unbeaten in the league this term – and secured a big win over Benfica earlier this month – although they twice let their lead slip in the 2-2 Primeira Liga draw with Moreirense on Friday.
The clash will, therefore, be an interesting one to watch, which will be made even more so by the return of Diego Costa to Chelsea’s starting line-up.
Costa missed Chelsea’s last two games as he served a three-game suspension for violent conduct against Arsenal, but is available for selection on Tuesday.
Porto will also welcome back Ivan Marcano after he missed league matches last weekend one through suspension, but Andre Silva is still missing with an ankle injury he suffered while playing for Porto’s B side last week.
