Premier League 2016-17: Team Of The Season!

The Premier League has finally come to an end and there are a number of stories to discuss from the start of the campaign. While Chelsea managed to lift their sixth Premier League title, Arsenal will miss out on Champions League football for the first time in 19 years while Liverpool managed to step into the elite competition, for just the second time in eight years.

Manchester City managed to finish in the 3rd spot while United and Everton finished 6th and seventh respectively.  There were a number of brilliant individual performances throughout the season and here is the best XI for the 2016-17 season of the Premier League:

Jordan Pickford (Sunderland):

Though the likes of Tom Heaton and Thibaut Courtois rule the numbers, Sunderland’s Pickford has been more influential than any other shot-stopper this season in the league.

Virgil van Dijk (Southampton):

The Dutch international missed most of the second half of the season but still stands as one of the best defenders in the league this season.

Toby Alderweireld (Tottenham Hotspur):

The Belgian international has been integral to Spurs’ 2nd place finish and has been one of the most consistent players in his position this campaign.

David Luiz (Chelsea):

Helping Chelsea to the title with some consistently solid performances at the back, Luiz completes the back three for this team of the season.

Kyle Walker (Tottenham Hotspur):

Though not preferred in the last few games, Walker is one of the most effective players at both ends of the field in his position and finds a place in this lineup.

N Golo Kante (Chelsea):

The French international has been terrific yet again and was named the PFA player of the year for the current season, making it hard to ignore him in this lineup.

Marcos Alonso (Chelsea):

With hardly any player putting in consistent performances at left-back, the Italian star and his timely goals for Chelsea make it into this year’s team of the season.

Eden Hazard (Chelsea):

Another Chelsea star in this lineup, Hazard has easily been Chelsea’s best players as he created a number of chances for his side throughout the season.

Dele Alli (Tottenham Hotspur):

Beating Liverpool stars Sadio Mane and Philippe Coutinho into this side is Spurs’ young English star Dele Alli who has had his most productive season so far in his career.

Alexi Sanchez (Arsenal):

The Chilean has been Arsenal’s best player this season and is the most productive player in front of goal in the top flight of English football.

Harry Kane (Tottenham Hotspur):

Standing as the top goal scorer in the league, winning the Golden Boot, Kane has been one of the best strikers in Europe this season and deserves a place in this side.
