Liverpool vs Aston Villa – The last chance for Brendan Rodgers?
Liverpool will be hosting Aston Villa tomorrow in the Saturday afternoon match of English Premier League matchday seven. This match can decide the fate of Brendan Rodgers who is under a lot of pressure right now for the dismal start of the campaign.
Liverpool are currently eighth in the table with only eight points from six games. The visitors Tim Sherwood’s Aston villa side are seventeenth in the table with only four points from six games.
Liverpool is in a lot of crises at the moment. Fans are displeased over manager Brendan Rodgers and want him desperately to be sacked. Liverpool fans have seen enough of their Northern Irish manager Rodgers who has failed to deliver a single trophy to the club since taking charge at Anfield in 2012.
After the two wins from the first two League games this season, The Reds did not manage to win a single game in all competitions. In League, they got a 0-0 draw against arsenal, 3-1 defeat against Manchester United, 3-0 defeat against West Ham United and 1-1 draw against Norwich City.
In Europa League they made a 1-1 draw against Bordeaux and the most recent display from the team was the one which made the fans go restless. In League Cup third round, they needed to go to penalty shootouts to see off League Two minnows Carlisle United who possessed the worst defensive record in League Two ahead of their trip to Anfield.
Meanwhile, Aston Villa also did not start their season on a good fashion. A lot of changes in the dressing room took place with Benteke and Delph leaving and a huge number of players joining Villa Park.
Both managers will be looking to get a win in the game with Rodgers facing more pressure than his counterpart.
Liverpool team news- Liverpool will be missing a lot of their big names in the game.Jordan Henderson and Jon Flanagan were out and three names have accompanied them in the list with Christian Benteke, Roberto Firmino and Dejan Lovren. So, a lot of concerns for the Northen Irishman from the team news and would have liked his key players to stay fit.
Predicted Liverpool XI-
Rodgers, whenever under pressure plays with 3 central defenders and the game against Villa will not be an exception.
Here is the team in 3-4-1-2 formation –
Goalkeeper – Simon Mignolet
Central defenders – Emre Can, Martin Skrtel will be accompanied by Mamadou Sakho who will get into the left of the three central defenders in place of injured Dejan Lovren.
Wing backs – Nathaniel Clyne and Alberto Moreno will play as two wing backs
Central midfielders – Lucas Leiva and James Milner will play in the midfield.
Attacking midfielder- Philippe Coutinho
Strikers – Daniel Sturridge will get into the starting XI accompanying Danny Ings who found the net in the last two games with Liverpool.
Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers has a must win game on his hand and the players have to perform at their best to get a win. With three central defenders, Liverpool have created more chances in the last two games, especially Alberto Moreno has been a sensation from the left wing back role. With Daniel Sturridge fully fit and Ings in good form, Liverpool should win the game. But the equation might change if Agbonlahor becomes fit for the game. His pace can create a lot of menace for Liverpool defence who have been hit on the breaks by a League Two team this midweek. The likes of Agbonlahor with Grealish, Sinclair and Gil can turn deadly. So, we predict an Aston Villa win if Agbonlahor plays.
Our predicted score line is 1-2 in Aston Villa’s favour.
The bettings odds are in favour of Liverpool though. Here are the betting odds-
Liverpool win @1.53
Aston Villa win @7.00
